I Heart Art
Over the river and through the woods to Neumos we go! We tackled the pass and had a blast - Art Brut to you, who woulda knew... that you would bring down the house in Captiol Hill!
Four and a half, or so hours, from Spokane, Matt and I arrived in Washington's biggest musical playground, Seattle, to see one of the funnest bands around; Art Brut.
After a trip to the E.M.P., a delicious dinner at Shallots, a visit to art gallery/bar Vermillion, and a look-see at the Bat-N-Rouge Softball game, we ended up in front of the Neumos Box Office door.
Black Nite Crash started the night off with their rough deep vocals and alternative rock sound. The few songs they played got the crowd up on their feet and loosened up their bodies. Their sound was different from Art Brut and Miike Snow. It was more serious, so it was a little hard to transition from them to the next two bands but I had a good time watching them and they are pretty cool. I liked their song about having sex in the front seat of a pick-up, kind of kinky. I would like to see them again, maybe then can come to Spokane... hint hint.
Miike Snow was dancy and happy and fun. It was feel good music that made you want to (or at least me) skip through a field of flowers in a sun dress with a basket of lollipops. Their song Burial is amazing, it is now in my top favorite songs ever, ever, ever play list.
These boys were a blast to see and it makes me sad that they are from Sweden because I know it will be awhile before I can see them again.
Art Brut? Killed it. No bullshit, one of the best shows I have been to all year. From the second their feet touched the stage opening up with Alcoholics Unanimous, it was high energy, hilarious, sing a long music that was a kick in the pants.
Eddie said "Ready, Art Brut," pointing to the sky each song started off with a bang and ended with a bang. Jasper had the best facial expressions and his interaction with the band was awesome, so much fun to watch. You could tell everyone on stage was having just as much fun as the kids in the crowd.
Every live band needs to be like Art Brut, every show would be a 10x better. Eddie even hopped into the crowd and sang along and danced around. Their drummer Mikey stood up. When do you see a standing drummer? Bad-ass! Just the whole band was fantastic, so much fun.
Eddie tried to get the crowd to do a dance he invented called "The Passenger" for their song The Passenger. I did it... for a second. After the song he joked about how The Replacements can't do that dance because they are too drunk and then went right into "The Replacements."
Eddie talked about taking his clothes off, good cock, bad cock, and how his sex was on fire. Not a fan of Kings of Leon, The Killers, and some others... but who needs to mention names. Art Brut reigns over them, if Art Brut headlined Sasquatch on Saturday night I bet you the main stage floor would be having more fun.
The first part of their encore they opened with the beginning riff of "Back in Black" by AC/DC and went straight into "Formed a Band." We had such a good time, Art Brut please come back you were a blast and the perfect live band. Please!
A neat little aspect to the Art Brut show is that all of the proceeds go to benefit Noise for the Needy. Noise for the Needy is a Seattle based non-profit organization that raises money for charitable causes through live shows!
