“Hello Eugene…Seattle…. Spoooookkaaannne,” singer Ben jokingly said to the crowd. It was actually a funny and creative way to come out on stage. The five gentlemen of Band of Horses quickly walked to their instruments with their western wear. After seeing Band of Horses live I have come to the conclusion that it is southern/western indie rock with a drop of reverb and a perfectly used steel guitar. It’s ideal for dancing gracefully with a friend or date and it’s wonderful for rocking out too as well.
Ben is an artistic song writer with lyrics that can wrap your mind up in the words as your body moves to the music. I am a new fan of the song “The Great Salt Lake,” it was phenomenal live. They band also had visually entertain scenery graphics that would move in psychedelic ways on TV’s that hung from each side of the stage. It was also moving to be surrounded by people on the floor that knew the words and would dance along.
The house appeared almost sold out tonight, which is cool for an indie band at the Knitting Factory. You don’t always see that. Speaking of the crowd Ben also mentioned that we were a “rowdy crowd.” Rowdy because we were excited to see you live! He meant it in a good way, for he had the biggest smile on his face when he said it.
I heard every song I wanted too and a few new ones that will be played over and over for the next couple of days. It was a cool show to have in Spokane and hopefully it will open up to more music like that coming to town. I hope they come back next year or I can see them at a festival… in other words I want to see them again!
