Birds & Batteries
Wednesday, October 28th at the Empyrean

Mike had a parrot on his guitar and they were all super cold in Spokane since well, they are from California! Or as they said they were a bunch of “wussy Californians!” This was their first time at the Empyrean Coffee House in Spokane, so they wouldn’t know that it is flipping cold here come the month of October. Due to their dance moves and enthusiasm they warmed up really quick in their set.

Birds & Batteries went straight into The Villain, then Out in the Woods, and Lightning UTNG Version which are all off their new EP that JUST came out titled “Up to No Good.” Personally Lightning UTNG Version is my favorite song so I was sooo excited to hear it live. They sounded splendid. The vocals were perfect just like they came off the record that was playing at home.  Not only does the front man/singer have hip characteristic vocals but the rest of the gang also has great back up harmonies. Everyone compliments each other like frosting on a cupcake.

One bummer of the night… alright kids I know Wednesday is a school night but this band is WAY worth $5! Why was the room not full? Why were there only maybe 20 kids at max there? I mean really? Really? Really Spokane you have something better to do at 8:30pm on a Wednesday night! Pshh.

Outside of playing songs off the new EP we also got to hear a few older songs by Birds & Batteries including Smoking the Filter and Strange Kind of Mirror.  The group does a lot with a vast amount of instruments. They have personality, talent, and marvelous indie music to boogie too! What more do you need? I hope the big penguin in Kennewick and the cold in Spokane doesn’t scare them away from our state! I would love to see them in the future! Until then check out their myspace or buy their new EP it is perfect for Halloween!
