7 Thoughts on David Byrne in Concert

1. It does not happen in Spokane that two mainstays of the 1970’s CBGB scene play Spokane in 3 days. With that said, I would like to thank David Byrne and Blondie.

2. Musically the show was amazing (I know it’s expected he’s David Byrne the brilliant, innovative, quirky genius) He did not miss a beat and his voice sounds great and I must say he has one of the most unique voices in music. He tours with some of most talented musicians that not only play instruments but dance and sing.

3. The show reminded me of a Vegas style performance with choreographed dancing, everyone on stage wearing all white suites, different instruments all to the great music of the Talking Heads and Byrne / Eno tunes.  It was brilliant and something only David Byrne could have pulled off.

4. It was a great atmosphere in the venue. One of the reasons was because it was the first time that I have been at the Fox where you could bring your drink to your seat and security would let you dance in the isles and just have a great time.

5. During the second of 3 encores David Byrne tore down the house with an incredible version of “Burning Down The House” complete with everyone on the stage wearing tutu’s even David Byrne. I would have loved to get a photo of that. However, I was only allowed take photos of the first three songs.

6. For his third encore, he played the song “Everything happens” by him and Brian Eno. I must say I cannot quit listening to that song on repeat since the concert.

7. It was a great night and I know it’s early in 2009 but this is the best show I have seen this year. I hope on many more shows and challenge anyone going out on tour to bring a more creative and fun show to town.
