I have NEVER EVER seen the Knitting Factory so full in my life, there must have been at least 1700 people there. Before The Flatliners took the stage, I had an entire array of cocktails on my skirt. When you stood in the bar it was a constant shuffle, yell to talk, shuffle, yell to talk, bumped, shuffle, drink, shuffle. It was a new kind of moshpit.
The Flatliners are a Reggae/Punk Canada group that is recently on (personal favorite label) Fat Wreck Chords. I am sure they played for forty plus minutes and ran through more then fifteen songs. It was hard to hear with the chatter in the bar and the Dropkick chanting, but looking back on it they were a pretty cool live band. They were fast moving and it most positively sounds like there are more then 4 kids on stage. If they at all sound interesting to you, check out their 7” “Cynics” which came out tonight, on Fat Wreck Chords!
For a moment there was so much testosterone around me I kind of felt like I was at a Football game with all of the beer and “Let’s go Murphy’s….Let’s Go Dropkick” chanting. I am not going to lie I joined right in, it was a riot but it was funny at the same time too. With an Irish Cathedral looking backdrop Dropkick came out on stage and the place went wild with yelling men and cheering of the beer! It was a gorgeous mutiny.
Opening up with “For Boston” the night was filled with sing-a-long and suddenly half of Spokane was Irish! The Set was full of Dropkick hits from all their albums and I had a fantastic time. I do not always get to see Matty and Jason belting out lyrics together with an entire bar. Nor have my rain boots been splashed with so much liquor. I met new people like Jared and we got to see a friend we hadn’t seen in a LONG time (Tyler)! It was a cool way to spend a Tuesday night with friends in Spokane; it makes great sense as to why it was sold out.
