Empyrean’s Farewell to Madison Street
Wednesday 12.23.2009

empyrean farewellI think I asked Michelle and Chrisy all summer what was going to happen about the Sprinkler Issue. I knew that it had to be done for safety and I can’t get angry at the fire department because well, my uncle is the Battalion Chief of the Valley. However this new law has resulted in the closing of a second home for Check It Out Music and that breaks our hearts.

I don’t want this farewell to be negative Madison Street. Therefore we would like to thank you for hosting (some cases introducing us to): Karli Fairbanks, Henry Nordstrom, Kaylee Cole, Kevin Long, Blind Pilot, Chase Long Beach, Dominik Bar, Horse Feathers, Mt. St. Helen’s Vietnam Band, Kurt Olson, Fienix, Listener, Som Jordan, Grand Sequoia, Toy Garden, Laura Gibson, Dane Ueland, Wartime Blues, Matthew Winters, Cyrus Fell Down, Iji, Watercolor Paintings, Cave Singers, See Me River, Maxwell Hughes, For Tonite, The Racquet, Yarn Owl, La Cha Cha, New Faces, Girlfriends, School of Rock, Rocky Votolato, Throw Me the Statue, Finding Fiction, Olaf Olaf Olaf, Yourself and the Air, Wallace Vanborn, Grand Archives, the Most Serene Republic, Finn Riggins, Church Mouse, Sera Cahoone, The Globes, The Wooden Birds, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, Birds & Batteries, Agent Ribbons and many more!

It was perfect to say adieu tonight with Karli, Henry, Kevin, and the company of the scene. I gave a lot of hugs and said Merry Christmas who knows how many times. It was a wonderful farewell with warm people and cold drinks.

empyrean farewellWith so many, many, many great times inside those brick walls; regardless if there were ten people or a hundred. Madison Street was a creative outlet for Spokane’s artists, poets, writers, and musicians. Michelle and Chrisy are more then friendly and always as sweet as can be; the entire crew is. The Empyrean Coffee House on Madison has opened its love for art and music and welcomed any curious soul through its heavy glass door and poster covered windows. Like I told Joel Smith (it’s a little cheesy) the walls at the Empyrean they wouldn’t talk if they could, they would totally sing.

A new location is a fresh start for 2010 and we are ready to explore what’s next for the Empyrean.
