With the drummer faced toward the keys and her in the center facing the crowd; Cameron, Eric, and Lisa put on a wildly lovely set. There was a guitar, three keyboards, microphones, and a black and white polka-dotted drum kit. Oh and a steel drum! I have listened to Finn Riggins over and over and I never put two and two together that there was a steel drum. It was cool to watch the drummer play it and the drums. He was all wrists and had a suitcase full of drumsticks.
The all over sounds that they can put together flow so nicely. It's not your everyday music. It's fun and dancy and creative! WAKE is now one of my all time favorite songs ever!!!!! I can't wait to see them again even if it has to be in a parking lot because of the sprinkler laws.
I have never heard a band that fit their band name perfectly. Church Mouse was catching, it reeled my attention in within thirty seconds. Here is this gentleman who holds on to his guitar like it is the only thing that matters as he sings gently into a microphone. It was dark and personal and it kept me tuned in. Standing in his worn cowboy boots he was so simple but not ordinary and common. He also sang in a second microphone that sounded like reverb.
It was interesting to watch him play on stage I almost felt like he was playing to himself alone, as if he didn't know we were watching. IT WAS SO COOL. He really took everyone by surprise; he even said that we were so quite that it was freaking him out. When really we didn't want to interrupt what was going on. I am glad I caught this Church Mouse and the soul of Church Mouse the teeny tiny music box.
This was the second time we have seen Sera Cahoone. This time it was raw stripped-down however you wish to phrase it. It was her and her shiny guitar, harmonica, and her friend on steel guitar. Sera is classy alt-country. She gracefully plays and sings with ease and passion.
It was the last day of their tour, they were excited to go home and I don't blame them. Like Church Mouse they said how quite it was, people were respectful. Good job Spokane! I wouldn't think a girl out of Seattle could play country like she does, I am impressed each time I see her.
It seems effortless when she is on stage and sounds like it could be recorded. It is always a treat to see artists like we did tonight. All doing their own thing and rockin it, well worth our $7!
