After doing a podcast and talking about the show with Dale we were excited for Monday night. This was the first time we have seen the Empyrean full front to back in a while. Every hipster, kid, and music lover was there.
It was good to see our friends Michelle, Chrisy, Som, Dale, Patrick, Matthew Winters, Kim Wescott, and more! Everyone was there to see great music and that was accomplished.
Before I chit chat with my computer about Grand Archives and The Most Serene Republic I must say DOUBLE HIGH FIVE to Dane Ueland holy cow he has a band and he is like way crazy rockin' now. Can't wait to see him again on Thursday with Finn Riggins (hope he has his band again).
Grand Archives they were grand. Okay that is a little cheesy, they were simply nice. Oh and way talented pretty pocket indie music. Slick fast plucking, but slow tunes with whistles and a harmonica.
They also had wonderful harmonies to complement a cello, guitar, ukulele, drums, and more! Some songs had roller coaster folk tempo's which was fun. The band drank their beer and whiskey and we all enjoyed their set. It made me want to slow dance on top of a mountain under the Milky Way. Lovely.
The Most Serene Republic lost their gear in Canada last night. They are from Canada. THAT SUCKS! The positive cool side to that, they killed it with big smiles on their faces less then 24 hours later in Spokane. Thanks to Dale and Hoffman's music for getting a trombone to complete their set. TMSR managed to cram seven people and their gear on stage at the Empyrean and play without giving anyone a bloody nose.
The red headed singer had red painted fingernails. He was also a groovy little dancer. I don't know to how classify the loud sporadic music of TMSR other then it is delightfully harmonious. They take in a lot of sounds and mix in multiple guitars, drums, his/her vocals, clapping, oh man and so much more.
It is a blast to watch live and great for dancing. According to the red head singer who hates Canada right now, he is all about the states, the Empyrean brick room reminded him of the Green Mile. Never heard anyone say that before. A fun fact for your back pocket is that they are totally Nintendo kids!
I could see them playing to thousands at the Gorge some day. They have the right mind set and out there creative music-ness to stand out and be hip. It was treat to catch a show like this on a Monday.
