Ingrid Michaelson - FanFest 2010
Sunday, January 17th

The fact that Spokane has the pleasure of hosting the 2010 US Figure Skating Championships is kind of a big deal. Not only does our city get to show off it’s one of a kind traits but we get to have guests come in from all around the world.

Sunday night Matt and I walked down to the 92.9 ZZU FanFest Stage to check out the awards ceremonies for I believe the Men’s Championship Free Skate and to catch a mini concert from Ingrid Michaelson. I was surprised at the size of the crowd and of the amount of support that came from our city.

People of all ages were excited to see the skaters! Mark Rypien and the Lilac Princesses were on stage to hand out the awards as news anchor Stephanie Vigil hosted the award ceremony. One of the neat things about the ceremony was they had microphones in the audience for people to ask questions if they wanted. It was a great idea because you got to get to know the skaters a little bit more and crowd interaction is always a plus!

ingrid michaelsonAfter the award ceremonies Dave, Ken, and Molly came up on stage to bring out the lovely Ingrid Michaelson. She was actually shockingly funny. After opening up with “Be Ok” she went to say how it has always been a dream of hers to perform next to a giant ceramic cement horse. Then went on to say how it did not have a penis. Yep she used the word penis. Then talked about how everyone looks to see if the statues have them, like how this bank has a giant metal bull with no large well you know. It went downhill from there, after she asked are there kids here? Of course! Oh my. Well we got to clap along to “The Way I Am” and since there was no drinking it sounded great!

It was a funny way to end the evening with Ingrid’s delightful voice and personality. As a girl said to Stephanie don’t miss the next FanFest with Parachute on Saturday, January 23rd at 9pm – Main & Post downtown Spokane.
