The Inlander’s Local Music Issue Release Party
Cure all Remedy, Mon Cheri, The Boose Fighters and Please Draw In Me
4.15.2009 - The Knitting Factory - Spokane, WA

Bands With Buzz!

Wednesday, April 15th was the Inlander's Local Music Release Party at the Knitting Factory featuring Cure All Remedy, Mon Cheri, The Booze Fighters, and Please Draw In Me. The evening started with Cure All Remedy and them saying “Hopefully if your not a fan you will be by the end of the night.”  Cure All Remedy is this very jazzy rock band featuring a male and female singer along with instruments like a keyboard and a trumpet. The band also features KCDA's Local Lounge producer Matt Loi. Together this five piece puts on a fun show, that will make you want to get up and clap your hands. The band had a lot of “sass” and flavor, the group sounded well and knew how to play their instruments. It's a talented group of people with a great attitude towards music. I wouldn't be surprised if I were to see them playing at a local bar again this summer. You can check out their show dates and get a listen in on the bands Myspace – I hope you enjoy them as I did!

Next up was the romantic and darling Mon Cheri. On stage stood three gentlemen and one lovely lady in a pretty purple flower dress. Opening with “All I Have To Do Is Dream,” by the Everly Brothers they slowly grabbed my attention as the singing duo just smiled and looked each other in the eyes. The chemistry and stage presence is one of a kind and just slowly pulls you in. Their simple harmonies and smooth music is perfect for any summer evening. The band consisted of the two singers, a drummer, a stand up bass, and one guitar (which was played by Patrick the male vocals in the band.) Kurt is the bands bassist and it was fun to watch him move around with his instrument, it add a nice touch of character. The whole group goes together like a glass of fine wine and a slice of cheese. Mon Cheri also did a perfect cover of “Across the Universe” by the Beatles that sounded absolutely lovely. I am excited for the bands CD release party on April 25th at the Caterina Winery and I must agree with the Inlander that this is a band to keep a look out for and that they are Spokane Buzzworthy.

The Booze Fighters hopped on stage next with some of the best blues I have heard. It is amazing to see three kids on stage play instruments like they did and nail that genre of music on the head. Normally when you see a blues band they are a bunch of old men and that's not the case here. I was extremely impressed with the guitar playing and the sound overall. Typically I don't listen to blues music but it was a nice change and reminds me that all music is worth a good listen. The singer and guitar player of the band is Karli Fairbanks brother Zac Fairbanks. Their parents must have done something right because both of their children are talented musicians. The Booze Fighters set was very chill and sounded on tune. The solo's were really cool as well, it amazes me how a person can play the guitar like that. I can't even do that on Guitar Hero. I would like to see these guys again, I think they would rock The Ritzville Blues Festival and if not I am sure you or me can catch them around town at Zola, the Caterina Winery, or Empyrean!

The last band to play was unlike any show I have seen all year. I felt like I should have been at a rave in Seattle not at the Knitting Factory in Spokane. Please Draw In Me took up the corner of the stage with one drum set, one table, one Mac, and one keyboard making one amazing electronic sound. Once again here is a type of music you don't get every day at the local concert venue. This was straight up dance music that was so freaking cool, I just wanted to get up and run around like a two year old on Mountain Dew. Their sound is fun and is very game like sounding if that makes any sense. Chris was on keys and it was really cool to watch him move his body around as he still managed to play every key right, and you normally don't get drums with electronic music so the percussion was a nice effect as well! They have a show this Saturday for $5 at the Empyrean at 7pm grab your friends and go – because $5 is cheap and I promise you it will be super cool if you’re into this kind of music! Then after you see them you will get what I mean by game like, totally should be the soundtrack to Mario Kart Racing!

The night ended up being a lot of fun and for $5 I got to see 4 amazing different local bands ranging from indie, jazz, blues, and electronica. I am excited for what the Local Music Scene in Spokane has to offer next year but until then make sure to check these bands out!
