It was cool to see Hed P.E. with their faces painted and punk rocking out a hip hop crowd. Hed P.E. got a mosh pit moving on the floor making sure no one was hurt. I didn’t think I would ever see ICP fans in any sort of rock pit. The band looked like bad asses and put on a wild set that was hip hop and punk. They even covered Sublime in which the packed to the rims ICP fans sang along too. I was reading comments on their myspace from other kids that have seen them on the tour with ICP and they all say you killed it last night but thanks to Fitz I am going to say they Murdered it at the Knitt with ICP.
I use to listen to ICP every day when I was a kid but a lot has changed since then with the band. ICP had lyrics that made you laugh and were crude as could be. Plus you had to collect all the jokers card albums. My personal favorite, the Great Milenko.
When Matt and I showed up at the Knitting Factory I had no idea that it was going to be this full and that I would ever in my life see some many people with their faces painted up. It was kind of eerie looking around the Knitting Factory and seeing a bunch of black and white clown faces!
Their set looked like a dark carnival with lights, bright colors, and star covered fire pillars. There were female dances that looked dead and a ring leader. It was the circus from hell. To the left of the stage was “Many Faces” in a cage and two the right of the stage was “Ape Boy,” that moved around during the set. The whole set up looked really cool.
There were also the dark clowns that would come out and dance around and throw buckets of Faygo on the crowd. Oh yeah that was the other part, the placed got soaked in Faygo. Hundreds of 2-litter bottles of Faygo. It was like gold to the crowd they would catch it and drink it as it shot up into the room. At one point they even faygo’d and feathered the crowd.
For being a band since the 80’s it is bad ass that they have a following like they do. A dedicated group of fans that call themselves “family.” I don’t know if I am a die hard ICP fan but what we saw was a show in itself, a spectacle that reminded me of GWAR. If they came back to town I would probably go again just to see what crazy stuff they would do next. Not to mention I didn’t get to paint my face this time.
