Mosquito's, cigarette smoke, lights and kids packed the patio of the Caterina to see Loom come back and play with Seafloor Spreading and Belt of Vapor. You see here is the funny story behind Belt of Vapor and Seafloor Spreading. Seafloor Spreading took the stage first and they sounded perfectly in tune, everything was going smooth and their metal sound with no vocals was just as cool as the first time we saw them. Then all the sudden there were two drummers and some new kids mixed in on stage. I thought they had just brought some friends on stage.
There was no set change or mentioning of a new band (that I could hear). But as I read my notes I start to write "wow Seafloor Spreading seems a little more punk with loud yelling vocals." I also wrote they are playing a lot longer this time, which is cool because I think the first time we saw them they only played three songs. I loved how the second drummer rocked the maraca like a drum stick, and two drums at once is always really cool.
Then all the sudden Loom was on stage. After Loom was playing I was like why aren't they moving their stuff. So, I went in to the Caterina and asked the one and only smart and sassy (had to add the sassy) Laurentia! She pretty much was like well hello, they just have some of the same members. Ahhh it all came together thanks to her!
Loom had a few drinks before the show (maybe a few more than a few). With a cigarette and a mic in hand they took the stage with heavy metal screaming and a violin! They were just as badass as the first time the graced the Caterina with their presence.
I loved how everyone in the band would sing along in almost every song even if there wasn't a mic in front of their face. There was hair and instruments flying everywhere. Loom are officially Caterina wine-o's, I don't blame them the Imposter white wine is delish. Now, seeing them outside was cool because of the white lights only lighting up the drummer but, the light show from the inside Caterina gig earlier this year was cool also so I am going to have to say that it’s a tie. "Don't buy merch, buy us a beer first." “I will trade beer for a CD” just a few quotes from the end of the bands set.
They were happy to be back in Spokane. If you are reading this and are wondering why you weren't at the show because it was so cool.... don't worry. Loom will be in town for another night! They have a super cool loud show tomorrow night at the Empyrean Coffee House with Cyrus Fell Down, Girlfriends, Merrick Diaries, and Fallen Regiment at 7pm for $7. Platform Booking, nicely done with a show outside on a cool summer night and no rain. Good thing I knocked on wood.
