Modest Mouse
Saturday, September 5th at the Knitting Factory

modest mouseThe Northwest's Mighty

Once I heard that the Modest Mouse show was Sold Out I knew that the night was going to be like a box of kittens on crack. When we arrived at the Knitting Factory and looked over the rail down to the floor there were hundreds of fans patiently waiting for the show to start.

I will be the first to admit that I am not patient when it comes to waiting for the show to start but after we got on the floor I knew we were stuck for a while. We enjoyed chatting with the kids behind us who met at the Modest Mouse show on Halloween in 07' and are now fans of the band and each other. That 2007 Halloween show was a blast and also SOLD OUT. The people at the show were respectful and not pushy which helps make any experience better.

We are lucky to get them before they were off to headline Bumbershoot, it's always fun to be the warm up show because you normally get a few obscure songs and its a bit more unique. We didn't hear Float On, Fire it Up, or Dashboard. I think the only song that is somewhat popular that was played was Satin in a Coffin and then the two new tunes which were the encore. But sure enough the crowd still knew most of the words to the songs for the entire set.

Everyone was singing along and rockin' out - not dancing but doing the folded arms slight head nod. I shook my ass a little, but then again I also had a few rum & cokes. Modest Mouse was a great way to get September moving and hopefully they will kill it at Bumbershoot like they did for us.

On a side note Marilyn Manson and Modest Mouse got the ball moving for more blissfully great shows coming to the Knitt; Flogging Molly, Built to Spill, Dropkick Murphy's, Sunny Day Real Estate... wonderfully delightful.
