Oil of Angels & Mt. St. Helen’s Vietnam Band
Friday, March 5th at The Empyrean

oil of angelsAs local scenester Joe said “They’re on it tonight!” It was a treat to see Oil of Angels play, it had been a while. I would say one of my favorite parts about watching Oil of Angels is to watch how each musician gets “into” their instruments; they all move with the music. It’s not a boring set.

Their music creates this eerie hollow feeling with heavy notes. I also enjoy the duel singers; a band with two singers is always appealing to my ears. Not to mention it’s cool to see Henry play bass guitar for a change. I don’t mind seeing Oil of Angels any day of the week and if you are into an almost ambient rock it’s up your ally.

We’ve seen Mt. St. Helen’s Vietnam Band a few times now and I still love this band! En Fuego, Who’s Asking, and Albatross, Albatross, Albatross make my body convulse into a rhythmic party. It’s fast, multi tasking, rock.

Mt. St. Helen’s Vietnam BandIt was like Christmas early tonight because we got to hear new songs that had never been played live before! They did have a few mellower tracks to mix it up but I still tapped my feet. I like how the lovely badass blonde in the band said that sitting is not a good idea – since most peeps sit at the new Empyrean.

Seeing as they were playing new songs we even got to vote on if we liked it or not by raising our hands. Their music is so much fun it jumps from one note to the next keeping you moving. At one point during the set the bass player and organ/key player switched spots for a song – and yes she still rocks the tambourine stix! It was cool to see the band again, if you haven’t made it to one of their shows yet you have a problem. Check them out – they will be in Kennewick in April!!
