The Back Row Kings, Overview, Please Draw In Me
Thursday April 23rd at The Caterina Winery

Nintendo Power!

After playing an intense dice game known as Toss Up, Matty and I headed over to the Caterina Winery for another night of music! The set list consisted of a local pop/rock band, a rock band from San Francisco, and a house/dance band from Spokane.

The Back Row Kings took the stage first and their set started with the singer playing the piano and singing by himself, after a few verses the band joined him on stage. That was a cool way to start your set! Now I can't really "review" this band because they were missing their guitar player, and the guitar is an important part to the band. But I will say that they have a talented singer, he sounds really good. They only played a few songs which is understandable when you are missing a player in your band but we are going to check them out on Sunday at the Earth Day Concert in Riverfront Park. I am excited to see the band in full, to see what they really sound like! But way to go for still playing a few songs and not bailing out completely.

The next band up was Overview from San Francisco. First of all before the show started we got to talk to the band a little bit and their merch/manager guy Mikey (not really sure what his full title is) and they are very nice kids. But when they started to play i was shocked when their singer sang - he has got some vocals! The band consisted of four guys and it was kind of cool because they all moved around on stage (well minus the drummer that's kind of hard) but they took turns on different mics and the singer and guitar player took turns on keys. It looked like they were having a good time. The band has a little soul sound to it too, especially in the vocals. They were perfect in my eyes because at one point they said "lets have a round-of-applause for the sangria." Yep, see I am not the only one that will be addicted to sangria by the end of the summer. You better try it - if you are of age. I liked the keys that were added in here and there on their fancy new keyboard. I also enjoy their song "When will they take Us." It should be on everyone's summer playlist. It's cool when all there of the guys sing together, very catchy! They had another fun song I believe called "Honeymoon" and it was cool because they explained how it is about the good phases when you meet a lady in the first two weeks and how those are the best. The guys drove from San Fran to Spokane and left last night to drive again to Salt Lake and they haven't showered in three days (they didn't stink though) so if you can check out their myspace and "if your feeling spicy" like they said last night - check out one of their CD's! I promise you if you can see these guys on tour anywhere it will be a good show, they are a fun band to see live. Plus not only that but it sounded sharp and like I said man their singer can sing! They ended their set with a little almost whisperlike "Thanks," and there you have it - Overview!

Next up was Please Draw In Me not Please Draw Me In, I am a dork and thought it was the other way around... so tell your friends it's Please Draw In Me. Any how they helped each other out and got their drums and table and keys and Mac and all that good stuff set up.  So, I know the Dance Tent as Sasquatch is booked this year but next year Please Draw In Me should play next year. They are a perfect fit for the tent and they are a great local showcase band! I asked them if they got inspiration from Nintendo because I swear some of the little sounds remind me of Mario Party and they said no. I really enjoy watching them on stage too because Chris on Keys gets into it and moves around, his hair flying everywhere. When I talked to them they were really mellow and were just normal kids. During their set they mentioned "We choose shirts for each other, we thought it was cool but now it's just stupid." The shirts were funny Chris's shirt said "Growing Old is Mandatory - Growing Up is Optional," and Mike's shirt said "Johnson and Johnson." People were excited to see them, when they said it was their last song the audience pretty much threw a fit. Everyone begged for one more and requested a song that Chris forgot to play but when they tried it, it sounded just fine. It was cool they played an encore or another song. Their set just fly's by, it's really fun to watch live. Once again I loved every minute of it and can't wait to see them again! P.S. "Clouds Look Like Cotton Candy" is my favorite! Thanks.
