Queensryche has very devoted fans. The Knitting Factory was full of guys, gals, and their kids who were decked out in classic rock gear including tight leather pants, studs, and lots of hair products. Everyone knew the lyrics, everyone was doing the devil heavy metal hand sign simultaneously, and everyone was having a great fucking time.
The spread of music for the night included their albums Empire, American Solider, and Rage for Order; with American Solider being their latest release. There is actually a neat story behind the album. Geoff Tate is from a military family and like most military families you never ask dad or grandpa about the war. One day Geoff’s dad started to talk about Korea and Geoff was so surprised because he had been asking about it forever. From that point on he interviewed a group of soldiers which inspired the album.
During the American Solider opening song a super buff military man came out on stage and sang a bit, it was a cool visual effect. Geoff’s daughter also joined him on stage for a duet that had to do with military fathers. The album is extremely relevant and important and probably hit home with half of the crowd there. I respect them for taking the time to talk with the soldiers and record video. Like he said it is true, we don’t know what it is like so we can’t guess, you have to ask them.
Halfway through the night metal vixen Lita Ford came out on stage and performed a few songs with a big and tall Mohawk Man. According to a few guys Lita looked hott for her age! Geoff started to ask do you remember MTV… the show that played MUSIC VIDOES. One day he was on tour and he came out of the shower and he saw this hott blonde of TV singing this chilling song. Now there he stood with that hott blonde, Lita and together they sang “Close My Eyes Forever.”
There were a lot of video used, lights, and Geoff can play many different instruments! By the likes of the comments such as “Dude that was so awesome,” and his friend saying “I know,” like 15 year old boys that are now 50; it was a killer set. I was impressed to see a band still pertinent and making music almost 30 years later. Cheers to Queensryche.
