The Classic Crime, Owl City and Relient K
Tuesday, June 2nd - Knitting Factory

Angela is so better then Dwight Schrute

The Knitting Factory was pretty full for a Tuesday night; the floor was packed full of kids and but the bar was a bit empty. Kids were super antsy for the show to start, anytime a light would flicker or go dim the crowd would start to scream and then it would quickly die-off once they realized the show wasn't starting. One great thing about the show tonight, it started at 7:30pm on the dot not a second late or a minute off. It was grand. Before I talk about the Classic Crime, let me give kudos to the left side of the floor because it was a non-stop dance party the whole time.

The Classic Crime consisted of five guys, two on guitar, one on bass guitar, one on drums, and one on vocals. They are from Seattle and have played at the Blvd many times, they must have a following in Spokane because once they said that the crowd started to yell! They love Spokane and the kind population of homeless people we have here. I liked their set and the way it was just song after song after song, quick to the point and still funny in-between every other song or so. The Knitting Factory had a very participative crowd for the night, if asked they were willing to whoa along, clap, jump, and sway their hands. The Classic Crime was a fun indie rock band that got the crowd movin', singing along, and ready for the rest of the night. You can check them out June 13th at the BLVD at 5pm for $10 in advance!

Owl City - "hoot hoot" they forgot their sewing machines... get it because it is the Knitting Factory. I thought that was a great opening joke, for as many times I have been there no one has ever said that before. One of the neato things about Owl City was they had a giant screen behind them that played a intro video and some images of clouds, ferris wheels, pinwheels, and other jazz during their set. When it was just clouds the light behind it adding the images looked like the sun. It also gave their frontman this really cool silhouette. The clouds reminded me as if I was an owl flying through the sky and looking over a city, I hope that is what they are going for. Their intro video was great, where you toured the city and the band appeared on stage when the "Welcome to Owl City" sign appeared.

Owl City is this bubblegum candy pop electronic band with two kids on mixing machines and laptops and one kid on drums. It is a cotton candy approach to the electronic music that you would normally get it. It is sweeter then a lollipop but with the snaz of pop rocks. They were the second Owl we saw this week too. The birds are in the house. I can't believe I just wrote that. I was a little bummed the crowd didn't turn into an instant dance party but by the end of the set people were shakin' it. I was glad I got to see them because I missed them at Sasquatch, hopefully they will come back!

Relient K, oh Hey! I am just going to get this out of my system right now. Relient K was my first concert, technically speaking. I say my first concert was Chevelle, because it was the first time I was all by myself without an adult figure, but really it was Relient K. I saw them at the Tri-City Arena back in the day and loved every second of it, so I was excited to relive that experience and see them again. I loved how they played the Rocky Theme song (a slightly different version of it) before they came out and then it was like woosh right into a song! No speaking or hellos, it was like the coolest musical slap in the face ever. Relient K has been around for a while and they still put on a super fun rockin' show.

When they played their The Office song that went into to theme song to the show, I was reminded of how sad it is that the show isn't on every Thursday. It is a favorite of mine and Matt’s, but they killed it with the song! It was funny too, Angela is so better then Dwight Schrute... I agree! I also got to hear my favorite Relient K song Sadie Hawkins. I sang the lyrics outloud and danced just like the other 90% of the crowd. That was another thing about the show that was cool; almost every song the floor would know every word and every chorus. It was almost like the band didn't even have to sing. They Knitting Factory went wild when they mentioned that they were right in the middle of making their 6th album. I am excited because you know they will have to tour after that! Relient K was a fun show that was family friendly and still rockin', which these days are hard to come by. I recommend you pull open goggle and try and find their Office song because if you a fan of the show you will be a fan of the song, and don't forget to keep an eye out for their new album!
