Sasquatch 2009: Day 3

Horse Feathers – We were a little bit nervous that Horse Feathers was going to be too quite to play at the Gorge and that the main stage would drown them out, but we were wrong. Another surprise was that they had a girl on stage with them. There was no chic with them the last time we saw them play at the Empyrean Coffee House. Minus the different people, they sounded really good just like they did before. They turned up the amp on their string instruments and rocked the Yeti Stage.

Santigold – The number one rule that I learned from Santigold was that you do not eat Burger King before a show. Fleet Foxes will never eat there now too. Burger King almost made this electronic hip hop dance singer puke; thank god she didn’t because it would have put a damper on her rockin’ set. The best part about Santigold was “the Lone Dancer” on the hill. He was shaken what his mama gave him, and entertaining thousands of people on the hill.  At first I think people were just making fun of him but slowly one kid would come up and dance with him for about half of a song (for giggles) then they would leave. Moments later another would join him and then leave, this happened with about six kids. Then out of the blue came three at once which lead to about 200 people running across and down the side of the hill all to dance with “the Lone Dancer.” I could not resist and ran down the hill to join in. The funny thing was “the Lone Dancer” just left everyone and the crowd kept dancing, he did not care about the crowd he just wanted to feel the music and dance. Santigold was a blast thanks to him, thank you “Lone Dancer.”

Gogol Bordello – I am glad none of my shit got stolen while I was on the floor for this amazing performance. I had the time of my life watching Gogol Bordello, I clapped, danced, and sweated my ass off because it was so hott! His rainbow pirate hat made me smile and his dancers were way cool to watch. Didn’t know punk rock could have choreographed dancers. They entire band was bursting with energy and had all of the kids on the floor fists in the air. Probably one of the funnest sets of the day. I can’t wait to see them again!

Fleet Foxes – Oh how I do love this band. I am a little pissed I left for a second to go buy a T-shirt because I am pretty sure I missed them playing my favorite song, but I hope I can see them again. Once again, really hard to go from gypsy-punk, to indie harmonies and acoustic sounds. People on the hill were saying it was boring, I get where they are coming from but piss on them. It was a great set, they sounded perfect and they had to have been hot in their grizzly beards. I need to see them again in a smaller venue where peeps will appreciate their set and I won’t have any distractions.

Silversun Pickups – They were a good pick-me-up into rockin’ mode from Fleet Foxes. The floor was crowded as we slowly walked into the golden circle like a bunch of farm animals being lead by sheep dogs. Silversun rocked all of the hits and more, it was not as crazy as I thought it was going to be on the floor. Which is okay I guess, but I kind of wanted to rock out a little bit more. The female bass player looked adorable and had the biggest smile on her face the whole time she was playing. They all looked like they were having fun. You could tell it was their first time playing there. I think the Gorge has a way with both concert goers and the artists. When you arrive this presence takes over you and you are there to have fun in mother earths playground.

Girl Talk – Just another one of those situations where I am like why isn’t this band in the dance tent or at the main stage. The Wookie stage and floor was flooded with kids the second that Girl Talk began to mix beats. I have never seen so many good dancers and so many bad dancers in one place at the same time. I also realized why there was no toilet paper in the premiere campgrounds. It was all on the Wookie Stage during Girl Talk. Um, hello we paid good money to have clean toilet paper. It was fun to guess which beat came from which song when he was playing too. Some songs ya knew some songs you did not. It was also hard to see him on stage, like trying to beat your best friend reading a Where’s Waldo Book. The only bummer about Girl Talk was Matt and Dave getting busted for having a flask. At least it happened on our last night there. I would love to see Girl Talk again; I had a blast dancing at the Wookie Stage before we left the Gorge ending Sasquatch 2009! B-Rad and I rocked it like a bunch of white kids! See ya next year!
