The Singing Nuns “Christmas Evermore”
Thursday, 12.10.2009 | Bing Crosby Theater

singing nunsCelebrate the Birthday of the King with the Singing Nuns in the 14th Annual production of their “Christmas Evermore” Concert Series on Thursday, December 10th at the Bing Crosby Theater

If I counted correctly, there were 19 Nuns on stage all dressed perfectly in their wrinkle free royal blue habits. They were graciously welcoming and warmed our hearts with their music at the Bing. They opened the evening with Hodie Christus Natus Est singing as they walked down the isles with candles in their hands. The first song they sang on stage was Joy to the World and it just lit up the room with the Christmas spirit!

The program tonight was “Birthday of the King” celebrating Jesus’ Birthday which is also Christmas. A really cool vintage Baby Jesus sat in his crib in the center of the stage on the ledge for all to see. The sister’s sang songs for him and us; we even all sang Happy Birthday which was mixed in with The First Noel.

We got to hear traditional favorite songs like Ava Maria, Joy to the World, Do You Hear What I Hear, and The First Noel. Then we got to hear beautiful songs we hadn’t heard before. Plus we got to sing along to Silent Night, We Three Kings, and Hark the Herald Angels Sing!

The Kelly Irish Dancers joined the sisters for a few songs, did some solo and group dances, and they were so fascinating to watch. Very delicate taps, strong kicks and smiles. It looked sharp, and was a surprise! I would love to see these kids perform again and again; it’s just really cool to watch.

singing nunsOne of the funnier parts of the night was the “cup – dance” off! Where the sisters had a party game with cups and clapping and it was synchronized to create a musical beat. The sisters tried to teach the dancers but they use their feet not their hands. Therefore the sisters would do a routine with the cups then the Kelly Dancers would try to compete with a dance. It was one of the highlights!

Everyone at the show was so kind and excited, Christmas was in the room! It was a perfect show to warm up the holidays and to learn more about the Sisters of the Singing Nuns!

It was also wonderful to be in the Bing during the holidays because it was perfectly decorated with his holiday photos and memorabilia. I look forward to seeing the show again in future!

singing nunsThe Sisters motherhouse is in Spokane, Washington, in the east wing of a large facility that was originally built in 1917 as a Jesuit scholastic ate. There are I believe like over 600 windows that need to be fixed, therefore they are currently looking to fundraise to fix the windows in the school and throughout the motherhouse.
