Slayer
Monday, June 22nd at the Knitting Factory

Jesus Saves?

Oh me oh my. Let me just set the preface. I haven't really heard of Slayer other then Matt, Jason, Dave, and Shawn on occasion singing the lyrics to their metal madness. I have never owned a CD nor been to a show. Plus I don't know the in's and out's of Metal like the boys do. So with that in your minds let it help you understand where I am coming from.

The Knitting Factory was only a few away from selling out as Slayer took the stage on a Monday night. Matt and I were trying to be hardcore by j-walking to the show. I have never seen so many black t-shirts, tattoos, long hair (on dudes), and piercings at the Knitting Factory, it was kind of cool. I must say Slayer was a total testosterone bro-mance night full of mullets and headbanging. It was a bit hard to not move your head to Slayers music. Is headbanging contagious?

They sounded great and are complete bad asses, it is just a bit overwhelming your first time. For being as hardcore as they are, they still take the time to say Thank You for coming to our show and that they appreciate it... I wasn't expecting that it was really cool. With those notes here is my take on Slayer 2009.

Sore - Because my neck is going to be sore from all the headbanging I did.

Long Hair - Not only did the front man have full locks of gorgeous hair that flew around in the air but half of the crowd did too.

Awesome - This band is badass. They are not cheesy at all!

You - You need to see them in concert, it is quite the spectacle. Why haven't I seen them before?!

Ear Ringing - It was soo loud I know I am going to pay for it tomorrow morning.

Relevant - Because even though they started in the 80's they are still relevant today.

After leaving the show we saw three things that summed up the crowd. Like the Inlander said the only thing more metal then Slayer, is their fans.

1. A kid who was being walked out of the Knitting Factory in a choke-hold by their tallest security guard. As he said ... you don't run from at seven foot tall man.

2. Two kids on the street corner asked us - did you guys get kicked out? We said no and asked him why they did. They responded for smoking. Matt bounces back weed? They say nope cigarettes in the bathroom. Lame. Part their fault part the Knitting Factories for closing the smoking balcony during a METAL show.

3. A kid passed out under the beautiful Fox Theater. The best part, people threw dollar bills at him. WTF? Is that how you make a quick buck these days!

Even though I am shell-shocked it was a fun night and I am glad I got to experience Slayer. Not only can I cross it off my list but I can say "I was there man, I was there."
