Deftones and Slipknot
The Star Theater - Wednesday, October 21st

deftonesNeither Jason or I had seen Deftones or Slipknot so we were both pretty anxious to get to the show. After grabbing a Budweiser at an Arena Rock Show we were living the American Dream! Deftones had a straightforward set with a white background and fancy light effects. But when I look back I don’t think they would need much more.

You could tell the crowd was a Slipknot crowd but everyone went nuts during Change. In which Change was the only song that Chino played the guitar. He had a lot of energy on stage and was dancing and jumping on and off mini ramps making sure to sing to every angle of the crowd.

They also played Passenger, Knife Party, My Own Summer, Feiticeira, and ended the set with Hexagram. During Hexagram Chino hopped down the stage and climbed on top of the security rail and sang practically in the crowd with hands everywhere. It was an awesome set I would do it all over again in a heart beat.

slipknotThey are an incredible band with their own musically stamp. I hope they continue to make more music and tour… as long as they can stop by Spokane again. Johnny B you are lucky to get a shout out from Chino, made me a little jealous.

Slipknot had an elaborate stage set up with three different backdrops, two side drum set’s that were on hydraulics and would shift and shake. There were also steel spears that were made out of the Slipknot logo and a lot of ramps. With nine people in a band there were plenty of instruments.

The band has a top notch guitar player, the one with the long hair and a great main drummer. The second they started to play the crowd went nuts singing along and putting their fists in the air. When kids would crowd surf to the front they would run down the line of 17 security guards and high five them like they just finished a soccer match. Security was tight tonight with a search before you went in and cops walking around the entire Arena.

slipknotSlipknot did a good job covering songs off of all of their albums. They have a huge fan base and they said thank you a lot through out the night to their fans. They have been around for 10 years and as the singer said it is because of you. Their fans were young and old, male and female. It wasn’t just males 25-50 like you would expect.

Their masks have changed a lot of the years and have gotten creepy as hell. At one point the clown and the guy with the long nose went up into the audience, fucked with the sound guy, knocked down metal barriers, and yelled and possible try to throw a hit at some fans. From that point on any time they left the stage or the lights went down I got nervous.

The guys were doing all sorts of stuff on stage, climbing on drums that were ten feet high in the air, doing pull-ups, running around, and playing marching band drums. It was a show. The clown used a baseball bat at points to play his drum set and the long nose guy used a steel pipe. Everything was three, two, middle finger and a kick in the ass. Every metal fan’s dream. I am happy to cross them off my list of bands I want to see live, I finally relived my teens.
