 Effing Stars
For the first time in my Empyrean concert going history, the brick music cave was turned into a full-on disco. Okay maybe not full on, people weren’t rockin’ bellbottoms and platforms but the moves were defiantly there. A good 75% of the floor was shakin’ what their mama gave them. Atole and Starfucker both from Portland, Oregon shook the walls with songs that I cannot pronounce and songs that are kind of kinky. I am not sure which is better.
For once in a while it was cool to see kids dance at a “dance music” show. I know it is hard, I am right there with ya, to let down those walls but once you do I can guarantee you will have that much much much more fun. Like riding a roller coaster and eating cotton candy all day! I loved the front man of Atole and his long black hair, great dance moves, and effort to get out in the crowd and get the party started. Their sound had a little punk edge thrown in which is always an added bonus plus the beats were tight and the sound was good thanks to William from Toy Garden running sound. I do not think I need to say anymore.
We did not starfuck Starfucker but man did they f*ck my ear buds up with explosive electronic beats, pops, and noises. They were up on stage killin’ it like U.F.O.’s were going to arrive in 15 to abduct them into Space. It was fast, fun, and made your body shake like a maraca. Biggest dance party I have been to in Spokane, on par with the Caterina No-Fi show. It takes balls to have a name like Starfucker and even bigger cajones to play like they did. They were sweating and having a blast which only made the crowd do the same.
I hope they come back because I had a blast at their show and it was good to see kids dancing! Thanks to Papa Bear Promotions and the Empyrean for bringing two killer dance electronic acts to town on a Sunday night. Nicely done, hugs and kudos.
