The Rock God Gave Dave's Ipod
1963 and 1988 (the years we were born respectively) Trucker Dave and I stand together at the Knitting Factory to see two very important bands play... two very important bands known as The Yardbirds and The Zombies. Now to set the premises here I am 21 and Dave is 46, Dave obviously knows more about them then I do.
Dave what did you think of the Yardbirds?
"First off The Yardbirds...two original members Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty. The cornerstone around an exceptionally brilliant first wave British blues band. Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, & Jimmy Page are long gone. However, they surrounded themselves with smoking hot top notch blues players that filled in those spaces quite respectively. Such Yardbirds classics as "Heart full of Soul," "Over, Under, Sideways, Down," and "Still I'm Sad" were played as if it were 1966."
No matter the age difference between the group it was well put together and by the reaction from the crowd it must of sounded like the original band. People alike were excited to hear the hits and more.
The Zombies; just so you know they are not really zombies... actually quite normal. No brains eaten by the way, Dave chimes in. One of the cool aspects about this band the bass player Jim Rodford who also played for the Kinks rocked it while his son was on drums. Nice little fact for your pocket, Rod Argent is also cousins with Jim Rodford. So, actually it is kind of a family affair... very cool. As Dave says "Two bands for the price of one."
Dave loves the fact that they played a handful of songs off Odyssey and Oracle. "Time of the Season," a classic in its own right followed up by the cornerstone of classic rock "Hold Your Head Up"by Argent. Dave even got the chance to sneak up on the floor inbetween the dancing crowd and shake hands with Jim Rodford at the end of the show. The night was fun, people got up and danced, sang along, and enjoyed classic hits from the Zombies.
For not knowing much about the band, only the hits I had a good time and in the end that is what matters. Now I know that music from the 60's isn't half bad, it is cool to know that bands I like today were inspired by these guys. May just need to add it to my iPod after all.
