Iji and Watercolor Paintings
Wednesday, July 8th at the Empyrean Coffee House

Happy Little Tunes

"...I wrote this song when I was asleep." It was over within thirty seconds and I loved it. It almost teased you with Iji's dinks, chimes, and clinks. Iji... so odd and wonderful at the same time that I want to wrap it andsave it for a sunny day because the world has too many songs for a "rainy day." I loved the keyboard/flute instrument, this was my second time seeing one of them. It is such a peculiar fun instrument that complimented the kids other like flat harp keyboard looking instrument. It was pretty rad... I should of asked him what it was called. We got to sing along as loud as we wanted to and clap which is always fun. I had a great time watching Iji and hearing them sing along while Watercoloring Paintings was playing.

There were twenty or so kids sitting on the floor of the Empyrean criss-cross applesauce style all quietly waiting to here Watercolor Paintings play. It was one girl and one boy (siblings) she on a mini harp him on a ukulele. Quirky, simple, environmentally friendly (no cords, power, or mics) and funny. With clean stops and sing a longs, not just by iji, their smiles were passed on to the audience. The lyrics were crisp, some that made you giggle and others that made you a little bummed. Stupid boys. "...declared blind, now if I don't want to see something sad I just take off my glasses." They had string patches with their friends faces on them, as Rebecca said "if you put them on your back they will watch your back."

I recommend you check both of these bands out they are witty, funny, and unique. I am glad we walked down to the Empyrean for another perfect summer night of music. What would we do without this wonderful venue?
